TEACHERS

Teacher training is the core of the Associate Schools Programme. We offer CPD Training and other activities to teachers in the programme, as well as resources to help embed active approaches to Shakespeare in classrooms.

We work with over 1000 teachers in 280 schools across England to change the way that Shakespeare is taught in the schools. In classrooms from Middlesbrough to Newquay, there are Associate Schools teachers developing and demonstrating innovative and inspirational practice based on the RSC rehearsal room approaches.

We work in long-term partnership with teachers to:

  • Create pathways for leadership capacity, talents and skills;

  • Lead and coordinate clusters of schools in their areas, building local communities of practice;

  • Give those impacted by structural disadvantage opportunities to engage with Shakespeare’s work, live theatre and theatre-making;

  • Significantly increase the life choices of young people, embracing young people’s voice and talent development;

  • Inspire a generation of theatregoers and theatre-makers;

  • Embed research across the network, building a robust evidence base that demonstrates the value of rehearsal room approaches to Shakespeare and cultural learning.

Here you can find information and resources to help you plan a day of CPD or training for your Shakespeare Ambassadors, working towards a Playmaking Festival or hosting our touring production of First Encounters.

You can also find links to our digital learning resources for schools, including the Shakespeare Learning Zone, Live Lessons, Schools’ Broadcasts of RSC productions and Playwriting Resources from our national 37 Plays project.
