Our teacher professional development is for anyone who engages with Shakespeare’s texts in their classrooms, from EYFS to KS5 and beyond. This includes secondary English teachers, Drama teachers, Primary teachers, literacy specialists as well as freelance educators and tutors.
The day will include active approaches which investigate text by speaking it aloud and exploring the physicality of the language just as our actors, directors and other theatre artists do in our rehearsal rooms.
Ahead of attending an RSC CPD course, please read our CPD Onboarding Document which will supply teachers with everything you need to know in advance.
Each of our clusters of Associate Schools receive 3 days of RSC-led CPD each academic year. This is core activity for every cluster.
We work with Lead Teachers to ensure that each day of training is tailored to your cluster, to suit the requirements of the teachers in the room, including by exploring adaptations to our approaches which meet the needs of different learners and stages of development.
Following each day of training, teachers are provided with detailed Notes & Texts prepared by the Associate Learning Practitioner, which support the exercises and approaches explored in the training.
We also offer other training opportunities in Stratford-upon-Avon, including:
Connected, our annual 2-day symposium for Lead Teachers and Senior Leadership from our Lead Associate Schools;
Associate Schools Foundation Training, which takes place every March and is designed for teachers in Associate Schools who are new to the work;
Certificate in Teaching Shakespeare courses, for teachers who would like to advance their own continued professional development and develop their classroom practice. Please note, we offer a limited number of places for the Intermediate course to Associate Schools teachers each year. Find out more about our Certificate in Teaching Shakespeare courses.
We have put together a Hosting Pack for CPD, which provides useful guidance about the logistics involved for each day of training. Our Associate Learning Practitioners will all bring with them a QR code for teachers to access an online feedback form. It is imperative that all teachers complete feedback, as we have to report this to Arts Council England and our funders. More importantly, we use feedback to develop our practice and delivery of CPD.
